Media art is becoming increasingly popular, aligning with modern life’s fast-paced and multi-faceted nature. While the number of video artists steadily grows, the exhibition infrastructure and support mechanisms lag far behind.

Typically, video art is only exhibited in white cube spaces, where the audience is largely composed of those within the visual arts sphere and the contemporary art-loving community.ย

Launched in 2022, the FETA / Video Art Beyond Walls project seeks opportunities to reach a broader audience by screening video art in social spaces where it can be seen by those unfamiliar with the art form.

Instead of solely seeing commercial ads on billboard screens, viewers will encounter a different state through minimally verbal, non-profit moving images featuring sentiments beyond human discourse, vestiges of nature in the cramped city, historical reflections and future projections, and fleeting, unrecorded associations.

Brief, moving, and unexpected โ€“ that’s what makes passersby momentarily stop to watch the advertising screens. Cultivating a habit of appreciating video art in public spaces is a long process, but we’ve been heartened by the occasional reminder after each intermission, ‘Why aren’t the video artworks being shown anymore?’ That alone brings happiness and fuels FETA to continue.

FETA is back with a new season!

*White Cube: An indoor exhibition space with white walls for visual art. This is a concept referring to neutral spaces lacking specific local characteristics or context, to distinguish them from spaces chosen specifically or designed particularly for a site-specific artwork.
