Time:

10:00 – 12:00, Saturday, January 15th, 2022

Online on Google Meet and livestream on the event page

During 60 years since 1950, Chinese art has constantly transformed through several movements: from Socialist Realism as in other socialist countries to Formal Realism – when China and the Soviet Union were in conflict in the late 1960s, then, the “Cynical Realism” from the mid-1970s.

Emerged after 1989, Political Pop questioned the hot and pressing socio-political issues when China was experiencing rapid social and political changes, with greater economic openness and a shift in the ideology. These changes have become the trigger for the rising of daring avant-garde art with new themes and experimental forms.

In the talk about “Political Pop” (also known as Chinese Pop/ Mao Pop). Audiences learnt about important artists and artworks that have made a very prosperous appearance of Contemporary Chinese Art. The event was a part of APD’s “Flowing/Chảy” art talk series, guided by artist Tran Luong and moderator – Dr. Nguyen Duc Thanh.

The talk, led by Trần Lương and moderated by Dr. Nguyễn Đức Thành, provides information and knowledge about important aritists and artworks of the Political Pop movement (also known as Chinese Pop / Mao Pop) – which has prompted a very prosperous emergence of Chinese contemporary art.

*The event is organized by APD Center for Art Patronage and Development, with the support from UPGen Vietnam.
